Meta has expanded its collaboration with Oakley after successfully partnering with Ray-Ban to bring smart glasses integrated with AI technology. The result is Oakley Meta HSTN, the latest AR glasses that not only look stylish but also offer significant improvements in functionality.
Different from the previous Ray-Ban Meta, Oakley Meta HSTN is designed to target more active users, especially athletes and those constantly on the move. These glasses can record videos from the user’s point of view (first-person view) in resolutions of up to 3K, which is much higher compared to the 1080p in Meta Ray-Ban glasses. To support a maximum hands-free experience, Oakley Meta HSTN is equipped with five microphones for clear sound capture and internal Bluetooth speakers. Everything can be controlled through Meta AI, allowing users to record videos, play music, make calls, send messages, or even ask common questions just through voice commands.
There is also a small LED indicator in the right corner of the lens to inform people nearby that the user is recording. Additional controls are available through a touchpad on the right side and physical buttons on the top of the frame. This design maintains Oakley’s comfort and signature style while providing practical direct control.
Battery life has also been significantly improved. Meta claims that Oakley Meta HSTN can last up to 8 hours in a single use — twice as long as its predecessor. The included case that also serves as a charger can extend the battery life up to a total of 48 hours. Recharging to 50% only takes about 20 minutes.
Device settings, photo and video management can be done through the Meta AI app available for iOS and Android. Oakley Meta HSTN is available in four color options: Warm Grey, Black, Brown Smoke, and Clear. These glasses support five lens types, all compatible with prescription lenses from a doctor.
For those interested, pre-orders for the limited edition Oakley Meta HSTN open from July 11 with a price of $499. Meanwhile, other Oakley variants in this smart glasses lineup are scheduled to be available in the upcoming summer at a more affordable price of $399. Will this be a serious competitor for other emerging smart glasses on the market? We will wait and see how the market responds in the future.
