Two high school students from Papua had the honor of participating in Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day celebrations as members of the elite national flag-raising troop, Pasukan Pengibar Bendera Pusaka (Paskibraka), at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta alongside President Prabowo Subianto. Representing Papua Pegunungan Province is Franciscus Sakfiris Pahabolisage, a student at SMA Negeri 1 Wamena, while Stincek Laramiapa represents Papua Tengah Province from SMA Negeri 1 Nabire. Franciscus expressed his gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to be a part of the ceremony, emphasizing that he had never imagined being able to witness it firsthand. He noted the challenging selection process he underwent, particularly the physical training, which was a new experience for him. Stincek, on the other hand, shared her commitment to delivering her best performance during the flag-raising ceremony, aiming to make the nation proud. Despite initial doubts, she is thrilled to be part of the Paskibraka team and is grateful for the camaraderie and unity developed during training.
