Alex Palou’s quest for victory was cut short after a crash during the Good Ranchers 250 at Phoenix Raceway. The reigning and four-time IndyCar Series champion, Palou, hit Rinus VeeKay’s #76 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet, resulting in a wreck just 22 laps into the race on the 1-mile tri-oval track.

Starting 10th on the grid, Palou’s #10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda quickly moved up into the top three positions. However, a restart on Lap 19 saw him lose ground to Graham Rahal’s #15 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda. As VeeKay attempted to overtake Palou from the high line, their cars made contact, sending Palou’s right-front into the outer wall and forcing him to retire due to damage.

Palou expressed uncertainty about the incident, mentioning the need to review the replay to understand whether there was enough space between him and VeeKay. On the other hand, VeeKay believed he was squeezed into the collision by Palou, expressing frustration over potential suspension damage on his car.

Despite the early exit, VeeKay continued racing but struggled with steering and suspension issues, running several laps down in 23rd place. The aftermath of the crash left both drivers out of contention for a strong finish in the race.
