President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship programs, which include Free Nutritious Meals (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG), People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat), and Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives (Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih/Kopdes), are being praised as “express lanes” to speed up the eradication of poverty. These initiatives are not only aimed at reducing poverty but also empowering people to become economically self-reliant. The Head of the Poverty Eradication Acceleration Agency (BP Taskin), Budiman Sudjatmiko, emphasized the government’s commitment to equip individuals with skills, knowledge, proper nutrition, and economic opportunities to score the “goal” of poverty eradication.
Sekolah Rakyat, a boarding school program, is designed to break the cycle of poverty, while MBG and Kopdes Merah Putih contribute to economic growth in communities. By establishing kitchens and retail outlets, these programs are expected to create millions of jobs and boost demand for various industries like farmers, SMEs, and village-owned enterprises. Deputy Head of BP Taskin, Nanik S. Deyang, highlighted the tangible impact of these programs on poor households, offering hope for independence and economic stability. For example, small local businesses supplying MBG kitchens have seen an increase in employment opportunities due to higher demand.
Apart from job creation, Kopdes Merah Putih plays a crucial role in streamlining supply chains and reducing costs for farmers and consumers. By eliminating middlemen, Kopdes ensures fair prices for essential goods like LPG cylinders and fertilizer. Additionally, the cooperatives provide access to affordable credit, freeing individuals from exploitative lenders and offering more favorable terms than traditional banks. These initiatives are not only transforming lives but also paving the way for sustainable economic development and poverty reduction in Indonesia.
