BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s WorldSBK team will welcome a new member in 2026. Danilo Petrucci will compete next year on the BMW M 1000 RR, replacing Toprak Razgatlioglu, who will make his MotoGP debut with Yamaha next season. Petrucci has been a full-time MotoGP competitor between 2012 and 2021, with additional wildcard appearances in the following two years. The Italian rider also competed for one season in MotoAmerica and participated in the Dakar Rally, where he achieved impressive victories. Petrucci joined WorldSBK in 2023 and, in his 93 races with the series’ motorcycle so far with the Barni Spark Racing team, he has stood on the podium over 20 times, including three wins. Currently, he has seven podium finishes this season and is in third place in the championship standings, behind Razgatlioglu and Nicolo Bulega (Ducati). He also leads the independent rider standings by a considerable margin. Petrucci expressed his enthusiasm for joining BMW Motorrad Motorsport for the upcoming World Superbike season and being able to ride the number one-ranked motorcycle. His goal is to compete for the World Championship title and believes that joining BMW is a necessary step towards achieving it. BMW Motorrad Motorsport’s executive Sven Blusch welcomed Petrucci into the BMW family for 2026, stating that they believe they can continue their WorldSBK success with him. With the theoretical spot of the first SBK rider secured, BMW must now search for a second rider. Among the candidates being considered, one of the strongest contenders is Aron Canet, currently competing in the Moto2 World Championship.
