National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional, BGN) is pushing for nutrition education to be included in the national school curriculum, aiming to create a generation of healthy and competitive Indonesians. According to Ikeu Tanziha from BGN’s Nutrition Expert Council, integrating structured nutrition education in schools is vital in promoting a deep understanding of nutrition from a young age. The curriculum would cover topics like basic nutrition, food groups, nutrient functions, and the impact of unhealthy eating habits. Nutrition education not only increases awareness of balanced diets but also helps prevent diseases like obesity and diabetes. Practical skills such as cooking and gardening would also be taught, enabling students to apply healthy habits in their daily lives.
By incorporating nutrition education in schools, it is expected to form a collaboration between schools, families, and communities to emphasize the importance of balanced nutrition. BGN has been actively promoting nutrition through various educational initiatives, including social media outreach and videos about the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program. The agency encourages all stakeholders to support the integration of nutrition education in the school curriculum, moving towards Indonesia’s Golden Generation 2045 vision. The ultimate goal is to combine the Free Nutritious Meals Program with comprehensive nutrition education to enhance the health and quality of life of future generations.
