Vincencia Toma, a resident of Radamata Village in Kota Tambulaka District, South West Sumba, shared how the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program has positively impacted her daily life. As a pregnant mother with a four-year-old child, Vincencia used to struggle to provide breakfast with whatever they could find. However, since participating in the MBG program, her child now enjoys and finishes every meal provided. Vincencia, who has been receiving free meals for the past nine days, emphasized the delicious taste and nutritional value of the meals for her child. She also mentioned how the program has helped improve her family’s eating habits and made it easier to manage food distribution throughout the day.
As a nine-month pregnant woman, Vincencia is among the many beneficiaries of the MBG nutrition service kitchens in her village, specifically designed for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. She appreciates the government’s initiative to offer free and nutritious food to rural mothers and children, ensuring they receive meals rich in protein and variety. Vincencia expressed her desire for the program to continue long-term, recognizing its significance in enhancing community health.
Operated by the Tambolaka Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG), the MBG program in Southwest Sumba focuses on providing meals to schools and health posts, particularly targeting pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers.
